Things to do while in Colorado:

Day Hike in the Front Range of the Rockies.
The Front Range of the Rocky Mountains dominates the skyline of Denver and Boulder. Just to the west of Boulder are many excellent day hikes with many options of difficulty. Based on the number of people and their interests, we will organize a day of hikes on Sunday, 18 September. To avoid afternoon lightning at elevation, we will need to leave Boulder by 7 am. Transportation will be via cars provided by the hikers. Optimally, we would have a single trailhead, with several groups walking separately to different distances and elevation.

Each hiker will be responsible for their own preparations (food, water, raiment) and safety. Be prepared. If you are interested send a message to George Percivall (george.percivall@verizonNOspamPlease.net) indicating your hiking experience, your preferences on elevation and distance, and if you will have a car that can be used by the group. Let me know if you have a trail recommendation. Here is one:

Oktoberfest in Breckenridge - This year's Octoberfest celebration in Breckenridge Colorado happens to take place on the weekend between the FOSS4G meeting in Denver and the OGC TC meetings in Boulder. We are in the process of setting up a special rate at the Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge:

In addition to Oktoberfest, the Fall color change in the Aspen leaves is usually peaking during this weekend and it is beautiful. There is jeeping, horseback riding, hiking plus more in the Breckenridge area. You'll have to rent a car to get to Breckenridge but you can cross the Continental Divide at Loveland Pass (11,990 ft., 3,655 m) along the way.

Refer to the OGC rate when you call for reservations. Hotel rooms should be around $99.00 up to 2 Bedroom Condos for 199.00.
Trail Ridge Road Loop. Another option for people who will be here on the weekend between FOSS4G and OGC TC is a drive over the highest continuous highway in the US -- Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. On the way down on the far side is the Grand Lake Lodge (still up at 10,000 ft.). September 18 is the last day the Lodge will be open for the season. They have cabins available starting at $125.

One can return to Boulder via the Highway 40 over Berthoud Pass and then on to Interstate 70.
