Abstract of the session:
The technical session is structured around the services Citizen Science Projects and Citizen Observatories are putting in place to make Citizen Science data open, searchable, discoverable and GDPR compliant. Furthermore, the session discusses a possible way forward in creating citizen science federation with a single sign on (and single sign out) for a plethora of different Citizen Science projects that eventually can be supported for a common spatial data infrastructure. The solution also discusses the potential to filter and cluster citizen science data while at the same time having full GDPR compliance and anonymity of the individual citizens. All current running EU projects which have a CS component are welcome to participate in the session.
The first part of the session consists of a number of lightening talks with subsequent discussions around the topics of Citizen Science projects and how we can achieve interoperability. Existing solutions and services of Citizen Science projects will be presented. The final part will be reserved to live demonstrations of the current proposed approaches (e.g. The citizen Science Interoperability Experiment or the Earth Challenge 2020)
The second part of the session will be a hands on workshop in a smaller separate room (to be announced; likely at 17.15 on the 4th of July) where future solutions and the way forward will be discussed on how the current existing systems and solutions can be integrated. Alternative solutions might range from one overarching platform to a completely distributed system. The arguments and conclusions will be collected and a condensed short report that will contain recommendations to the European Commission on how to support Citizen Science as part of the
EuroGEO strategy. All active participants in the second short workshop with follow up calls will be co-authors of this report.
