When: WED December 1st 2021 - 15:00-16:00 CET
Attendants
Joan Maso
Kaori Otsu
Andreas Matheus
Lucy Bastin
Agenda
- From April 2021 Cos4Cloud sponsors the continuation of the CoP
- OGC Members meeting TODAY:
- Progress report on STAplus implementation
- Technical interoperability
- Semanic interoperability
- Discussion about ER writing
Minutes
- Lucy presented her activities on low cost sensors for schools.
- Her experience with low cost sensors for air quality so far is not good.
- She finds the situation intersting because it enphasices the need for provenance and data quality information associated to measures.
- This makes the excercice with schools more rich and interesting. She wants to test the sensor community kits.
- The separation of the platform (thing) the sensor and the variable (observed property) is needed and STA already has it.
- Discussion on how to use STA for hourly averages "instead of" or "in addition to" the raw data.
- Joan wanted to discuss the convenience to extend API model to include DQ_element in DataStream or in Group. currently it is only in observation, limiting the applicability of data quality to individual observations but and not to overall summaries.
- Andreas was interested in discussing if observatinos can be edited and by whom.
- There are obvious cases where it is done in practice when the series is recalibrated. Is this a new observation or an edit.
- Need to record When, who and why the observation changed. Blockchain technologies are good at recoding this.
- Kaori discussed on mapping Darwin Core and STA.
- Where and how the taxon should be recorded?
- Alternative A: Taxonomies could be considered observations and they could be related to the actual observations
- Alternative B: The observed taxon could be encoded as a URI result that points to the full description of the taxon
- Alternative C: "Relation" should allow for linking to external resources and taxon coudl be one of them. It seems the prefered alternative but this will requere edititng the STAplus data model.
- Andreas is pushing the best practices document and requested Joan to contribute to a section that is indicated.
Regular topics on these meetings
- Regular topics on these meetings
-
- Progress on implementations of STAplus services and clients (Cos4Cloud)
- Henning Bredel to demonstrate the 52North demo server: https://github.com/52North/sensorweb-server-sta/tree/feature/sta-plus/dao-citsci/docs
- Andreas (SecureDimensions) has implemented the data cloud deployed by EGI, EOSC service provider: https://cos4cloud.secd.eu/staplus/v1.1/api (for Cos4Cloud project)
- Joan (CREAF) has written the script to test exporting data from the Natusfera to the STAplus: https://github.com/joanma747/Natusfera4STAplus
- Natusfera in JSON: https://natusfera.gbif.es/observations/313411.json
- STAplus in JSON: https://cos4cloud.secd.eu/staplus/v1.1/Groups?$filter=name%20eq%20%27http://natusfera.gbif.es/observations/313411%27&$select=name,description,created,Observations,id&$expand=Observations($select=resultTime,result,phenomenonTime,parameters,FeatureOfInterest,Datastream;$expand=Datastream($select=Party,Sensor,Thing,License,ObservedProperty;$expand=Party($select=nickName),Sensor($select=name),Thing($select=name),License($select=name),ObservedProperty($select=name)),FeatureOfInterest($select=feature/geometry/coordinates))
- Inria, one of the Cos4Cloud partners, has tested performance levels by exporting data (7 million records) from their Pl@ntNet to the STAplus, and will be testing to improve indexing in the database with Andreas: DB Performance | FROST-Server Documentation (fraunhoferiosb.github.io)
- Next step will require semantic interoperability (e.g. RDF from W3C) between those different data models (e.g. Natusfera, Pl@ntNet) applied to the STAplus model using the entity 'Relation'. An RDF query language such as SPARQL can be used then. Relation may play a critical role to explain taxonomy used in the biodiversity domain model.
-
* Review and progress on STA model (insert: STAplus model diagram with Group, License, Party, Project, Relation) to extend it to support "the citizen" (Party) and related instances in the dataStream
- Progress on the Definition Server: OGC platform to store vocabrary (linked to 'definition' in ObservedProperty)
- The second ER was collaboratively elaborated during the CoPs Foum #6, with the aim to conclude our second block of activities.
- TOC in https://github.com/opengeospatial/CitSciIE/tree/master/SecondPhase

Other plans for the future
* To discuss and explore the potential of exporting metadata (e.g. STAC, ISO, W3C DCAT) from various platforms into the STAplus once the common data model (template) is mapped.
* To discuss and explore the potential of exporting metadata (e.g. STAC, ISO, W3C DECAT) from various platforms into the STAplus once the common data model (template) is mapped.
* e.g.
GBIF Metadata Template for biodiversity domain
